Das war schon eine traurige Nachricht über Ionut Buzbuchi. In 1984 waren wir gemeinsam auf ein Turnier in Köln-Porz, wo er sehr stark spielte. Gegen GM Ian Rogers hat er eine interessante Partie gespielt. Wir haben am Abend vorher überlegt, wie er Rogers besiegen könnte. Rogers schreibt „I remember Ionut Buzbuchi well. He actually didn’t beat me, but the game was quite theoretically important because he tried to follow a game I had lost against Karpov but I had an improvement ready, a line that had been told to me by Milan Gricic in Canberra. (I tried to wave Milan away when he first came up to me and said he had found a great move which would have led to me beating Karpov but he persisted and he was right – his move …Bxc3! was very strong. I later used it to beat Lobron and draw with Timman and Arnason.)“
